| GUY TAKING PART IN ST. PAT'S CAMP
Former University of San Diego attacker Ryan Guy is practicing with Irish Premier Division club St. Patrick's Athletic at their Mallorca preseason camp. Reports out of Ireland suggested that the forward had already signed, but both the club and Guy agent Steve Kelly confirmed that the news was premature. "They invited him to their training camp in Spain, and he's gone along," he told YA. "He's played in two friendlies with them." "It's just a possibility. He is still considering his options." St. Pat's has been impressed with Guy, who earlier saw a Crystal Palace trial made irrelevant by a UK work passport rejection. "He's trying to earn a contract," Saints press officer Philip Nolan told YA. "We come back home next week to start the season, and he would have to be signed by then." "The Irish transfer window closes tomorrow, but since he is trialing with us now, he can still sign after." The Red Army will begin the new FAI campaign with a March 10th visit to Longford Town.
Mallorca 2: Illes Balears does the double
12/02/2007 The second stage of the Mallorca Challenge was another bunch sprint, with Illes Balears taking a 1-2 finish. But the mountains loom tomorrow. PIC BY VUELTAMALLORCA.COM Local team Illes Balears-Caisse d'Epargne scored a 1-2 result in the second leg of the Mallorca Challenge, the Trofeo Alcudia. Vicente Reynes sprinted to victory at the end of the 160 km stage, with his teammate Jose Joaquin Rojas holding off Discovery Channel's Tomas Vaitkus for second. Rojas also took over the leadership of the five day race, although he has the same time as Reynes and another 51 riders. Tomorrow's third stage is between Pollença and Mirador Des Colomer over 161.4 km. It's not one for the sprinters, as it features the Cat. 1 Coll de Puig Major (880m) with under 50 km to go, although there is a chance that the bunch could regroup on the descent.
Mallorca deal close for River Plate keeper Lux
The Argentina international is off contract at the end of this season and his agent, Nestor Sivori, said: "He has an offer from Russia, where they're offering more money, but he doesn't want to live there. "Mallorca is a tempting option. "I understand that it is not the time to talk about all this because Mallorca is in a fight to stay up. "If there's something to be done, it will happen fast. That's how football works."
