Ibiza Eurotapas

Ibiza town's main square, the Vara de Rey, was the place to be for lovers of tapas this weekend. A specially erected marquee was the venue for a veritable cornucopia of food and wine and with each tapa costing only €1, quite literally hundreds of people turned up!

The reason for the tapa-tent was the second annual Ibiza Gastronomy Week, when various restaurants and wine producers get together to show off the local cuisine of the island.

So popular was the event that many of the restaurants represented in the marquee actually ran out of food and had to ring up for emergency supplies. Many tourists from the mainland took advantage of the cheap prices to sample food they would not normally see in their regions of Spain.

What a pity that the Gastronomy Week takes place when so few foreign tourists are here.

First half of cockpits for FORMULA EUROPE booked

Latvia, Spain, Germany also the FORMULA EUROPE will be international like sister-series Formula Cup Mallorca. 4 of 8 Formula-Junior cockpits are given out. The charge for the cockpits gets Otto Birznieks from Latvia, the Germans Florian Schwarzenbilder and Max Mayer and Spanish Javier Avellaneda.

Otto Birznieks will be the guy to beat surely. The 16-years old pupil from Riga celebrated his first victory last weekend in Formula Cup Mallorca and he is still good for the title. He is just 11 point behind championship-leader Carlos Gaitan from Colombia, who will step up directly in Formula BMW with GU-Racing Team International. Also young German Florian Schwarzenbilder races in Formula Cup Mallorca at the moment. He improves so much at the moment that we have to count him also as one of the title-favourites for FORMULA EUROPE.

Magnus Backstedt's Operation a Success
"... I am so fired up to get back to my best"
After four months of constant pain that in his own words has tested even his limit of pain tolerance, Magnus Backstedt can look forward to 2007 with renewed optimism. Backstedt's crash in October left him in incredible pain and after returning from the Tour of Majorca visited his surgeon to review his options. The consultant decided that the best solution was to go ahead and remove the plate and pin inserted after the crash to reset the collarbone. When the big Swede woke up after the operation his reaction was more than justified "Straight away I was in less pain than when I lay down on the operating table.
